The Elton John Watch Auction, Ranked From Hubba Hubba to AWOOGA

On February 9, the pop king will say “goodbye yellow brick road” to at least a corner of his opulent material life. A trove of personal effects will be auctioned off via Christie’s, and includes paintings, photography, decor, dinnerware, and more. Of particular interest is a collection of 31 watches, among them a totally iced out Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir that will start at $25,000 and a dual-dial Cartier Crash asking $100,000. “Remember: These are the watches John is parting with,” says Cam Wolf for GQ. “Imagine what he’s KEEPING.”

Your Search for Killer Sound Is Over

[Partner] Audio gear can be a rabbit hole, with really good setups costing an arm and a leg to get pristine, crystal clear sound. But who has the time to dive into all the reviews, or the cash to cough up on what everyone swears are the absolute best headphones or speaker system? Here’s a big short cut to killer sound that won’t come at a price: Status Audio’s 3ANC earbuds deliver crisp, punchy audio, have a 12-hour battery life, and—to nerd out for just a second—three speakers in each earbud that create a mind-blowing soundstage.

The 10 Most Stylish Movies of All Time

How could we call ourselves good little capitalists without the influence of Gordon Gekko? The Wall Street villain’s white collar shirting and suspenders under a pinstripe suit—made even more sinister by hair so polished you could adjust your own tie in it—crystalised in our minds what the ultimate “trader and corporate raider” looked like. However filthy rich the aesthetic, it didn’t hold a candle to Robert Redford’s as J. Gatsby, a vivid portrait of new money style imagined by a then-fledgling Ralph Lauren. These classics, and more, are some of the most stylish of all time.

How To (And Why You Should) Find A Good Tailor

When a jacket or pants feel like a second skin off the rack, it’s satori. Unfortunately, those bright moments can be few and far between, and so much so that you just sort of learn to work with things that fit about 80 to 90 percent as well as they could. And that’s a good skill to have. But for those looking for an edge with their style—the best-dressed fellas always are—a good tailor can take things all the way to one hundred. Here’s how to find one you like, and what to ask for when you meet up.

The Take

Someone Buy This Field Jacket Before We Do

We found a vintage Dryback field coat by Abercrombie & Fitch (kind of like this one) on a secondhand rack recently, and would have nabbed it if it weren’t completely tattered and just a touch too baggy. The near miss led to something of a full on hunt to find one like it, and we came across this 70-year-old piece from Hettrick Mfg Co. If it’s gone when you get to it, there are plenty of other vintage barn and field jackets on eBay and Etsy that’ll give you that Ralph Lauren-on-the-cover-of-Esquire look that doesn’t seem to collect dust—even if the coat was built for it.
