Hunting for Vintage Levi’s Jeans? Here’s What to Look For

This is the rabbit hole of all vintage rabbit holes, Levi’s legendary denim. And we keep going down it, likely because there’s somehow always something new to explore. With the 501 alone, since being introduced in 1873, the wide range of washes and subtle changes over the years have created entire cults of fanaticism. Some obsess over pre-1971 big “E” varieties, while others swear by ’90s styles for their fades and fit. Wherever you go searching for grailed Levi’s denim, use this primer from Gear Patrol to help you home in on the goods.

Is This the World’s Most Comfortable Denim?

[Partner] Standard denim looks good and wears tough, but it isn’t super comfortable when you’re on the move. And you can't exactly rock sweatpants everywhere, unless you're boldly willing to sport them at the office or running errands (hey, no judgment if that's your vibe). For those of us looking for that iconic broken-in denim aesthetic coupled with the coziness of soft loungewear minus the “I stopped caring” vibe of sweats, there’s Duer. Their jeans are built with stretchy, moisture-wicking fibers, putting comfort above all else while still letting you rack up major style points.

Your Next Pair of Walmart Pants Could Be 3D Woven

On-demand pants, anyone? While most clothing manufacturers are stuck with the long lead times and inherent waste of offshore production, Walmart is exploring a—*checks notes*—hyper-local, small-batch alternative. The retailer has partnered with Unspun, a San Francisco Bay Area startup, to attempt to produce the brand’s in-house chinos in facilities close to its locations using the company’s 3D weaving technology. Orders could be fulfilled quickly and to a tee, minimizing supply chain issues and emissions. If successful, Walmart’s 3D pants are just the start, says Wired.

3 Things to Consider Before You Buy Your Next Watch, According to a Veteran Dealer

“Cartier has been on fire the past couple years—everyone is asking for Tanks—but you have to be careful of trends like this,” says Matthew Bain, who’s been dealing watches and consulting for major auction houses like Christie’s and Sotheby’s since 1989. When a certain piece like the Tank gets hot, says Bain, prices become inflated, and if you buy in expecting to turn a profit, it’s easy to get burned when the bottom inevitably falls out. Whatever your priorities in collecting watches, here’s what Bain says you should consider before you buy that next piece.

The Take

You’ll Completely Forget You’re Wearing These Socks

Underwear and socks are the unsung heroes of the wardrobe. They have to function at a very high level, but don’t get the visibility of a great pair of pants or shirt. You really only notice them, in fact, when they aren’t doing their job—when they lose elasticity in the leg, or don’t sit quite right around the toe because of a wonky seam. American Trench has solved any of your sock problems with its Mil-Spec sport sock, which, thanks to a compression band that makes it form to your foot, never steps out of line. $14
