A Watch-World Exec on His New Book, Collecting, and the Rise of Superfakes

“It doesn’t matter if they sell,”Joshua Ganjei tells his sales people. This is not an attitude you’d expect from a seasoned watch reseller, but in a way, it’s a pillar of Ganjei’s business. European Watch Company, which has operated in Boston since opening in 1993, indeed sells watches, but what they really provide is a white glove service. And it’s highly sought after. Here, Ganjei gives Robb Report an inside look at how his company operates within the world of luxury watches—which, more and more, includes being able to tell really good fakes from the real deal.

Spend Less and Get More Out of Summer

[Partner] This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. Of course, there’s everything that comes with warmer weather, including baseball games, cookouts, camping trips, or that beach vacay. But we’re talking about Memorial Day weekend, which Jachs NY is kicking off with a ridiculously generous sale that will set you up for whatever it is you’re excited to do out there this summer. The menswear brand is offering 60% off sitewide, which means you can snag their premium shorts, polos, pants, tees, and more for far less than the going rate. Now’s the time to refresh your warm weather wardrobe.

Men’s Shorts Are Getting Very Wide. Discuss.

These days, if it ain’t a five-inch inseam, or something super roomy, they aren’t shorts. The latter in particular has turned into a third rail of sorts over at the Wall Street Journal, where two editors—one Dale Hrabi, a boomer, and another Jamie Waters, of the millennial set—are getting to the bottom of whether these wide legs have merit, or at least any style about them. As Waters points out in this repartee, the look can be super casual, or elegant depending on the pair you wear. Or, says Hrabi, they can turn you into a little boy.

Have We Reached Peak Cartier Crash?

To the untrained eye, the Cartier Crash is outré. Its melting, Dali-esque silhouette doesn’t align with the classic menswear canon like the squared up, safe-looking Tank. Yet as daring as it might feel to some to put on a watch that shares an outline with a fried egg, at this moment, Cam Wolf at GQ is convinced that the Cartier Crash has been burned to a crisp. You could blame it on Tom Brady, who wore one at his recent roast, but it’d be too easy to give the retired QB all the credit for running the beloved Cartier into the ground.
