How Sweatpants Became the Jeans of the 21st Century
“We’re in a new era that has embraced comfort and figured out a way to style sweats in an ‘acceptable’ manner, and there are so many more options these days,” Phillip Proyce, founder of L.A.–based sportswear brand Lady White Co., tells InsideHook. At least one study backs this up, showing a decline in blue jeans sales within the past few years in the U.S., with people under 35 being the least likely to spring for them. Here’s how softer pants, be it sweats, joggers, or leggings, are becoming the jeans of our day.
Meet the Double-Knee Pant That Does It All
[Partner] Over the past several years, the double-knee pant has climbed its way out of manholes, job sites, and lumber yards to find a new home in cafés and offices. Proof’s Rover work pant might be the perfect example of how the double-knee has adapted to the new digs without forgetting where it came from. With a large gusset and hard-wearing stretch fabric that supports your full range of motion, this pair is built for tackling jobs or scrambling over mountains. But it also has a sharper silhouette than your traditional work pant, making it equally ready to tackle your Monday in town.
What I’m Looking Forward to Wearing This Winter
Jamie Ferguson (@jkf_man) has built a career pointing a camera at today’s most stylish fellas for some of the most prominent clothing brands and publications—he counts WM Brown magazine, J.Mueser, and Drake’s as clients—but when asked, never misses an opportunity to ham it up in front of the lens. In his first editorial, Ferguson puts down a master class in how to layer Ivy style when temps drop. There are some unexpected choices, like putting a down vest over a corduroy suit. Follow Ferguson’s expert lead for when winter starts creeping in.
Rolex Unveils the First Authorized History of the Submariner
“Rolex’s newest release doesn’t tell the time, sit neatly on the wrist, or do anything else a good watch is supposed to. That’s because it’s not actually a timepiece,” quips Rachel Cormack for Robb Report. Indeed, the Swiss brand hasn’t announced a flashy number you can wear, but one you can put on your coffee table: a monograph on its legendary dive watch, the Submariner. Get a sneak peek at the new volume dedicated to one of The Crown’s most coveted timepieces.
