Is the Gap Cool Again?

Mall brands are hitting the nostalgia hard: J.Crew recently announced it’s bringing back the printed catalog, and now, on Wednesday, Gap shared that it has hired a global vintage curator, sneaker designer and collector Sean Wotherspoon (@sean_wotherspoon), to source goods from the brand’s golden era. “The role will ostensibly build on [his] previous work curating the brand’s vintage drops, featuring Gap pieces from the ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s,” reports Highsnobiety. You can definitely call this a comeback.

Five Fits With: Rock Legend and Founding Member of Sonic Youth Thurston Moore

It isn’t lost on Thurston Moore, founding member of Sonic Youth, that he’s not the spry experimental rocker he once was, content in ripped Levi’s and an unwashed tee. “I realize that I’m sixty-six years old. Even when I go to get a haircut, I’ll go to a hairstylist and I’ll say, ‘Can you make me look like I’m actually a sixty-six-year-old man? I want to look like a book dealer. That’s my thing,’” he tells Esquire. Timed with the release of a new record, here’s how the aging musician dresses his age.

Before it became a subculture artifact covering the best selvedge denim, engineer boots, and chore coats, Popeye circled California style, debuting in 1976 “with a focus on sports such as skateboarding, surfing, and hang-gliding,” writes Valet. The publication’s name says it all: Founder and editorial executive Yoshihisa Kinameri saw the cartoon character Popeye’s name written out in English and realized that it split into “pop eye.” This would make the perfect magazine name—keeping an “eye” on “pop.”

How Apple Remade the Watch: “We're not afraid of the new at all”

There’s an argument to be made that the best watch is the one you bought for $20 as a kid. But while a dependable Casio has its merits—it doesn’t require OS upgrades or demand your attention with notifications—the Apple Watch might be a superior timepiece, if you desire a little more oomph on your wrist. Here, GQ talks with the designers behind the new Series 10 to learn how they reimagined Apple’s innovative device with a 3D-printed titanium case that’s bigger, slimmer, and arguably better, than the rest.

Mixed Bag

The long-awaited New Balance “snoafer” is finally here. The one thing you should do before you check your bag. No TSA pre-check? Breeze through security in a pair of these. Why the luxury watch market is still looking grim. Across the pond: All the totes from British bakeries, restaurants, and museums to flex your status.
