+ How Tweed Went From a Hunting Essential to a Beloved Menswear Fabric
RIP Gorpcore
In 2017, New York magazine put gorpcore on the map. Soon after, “Frank Ocean, A$AP Rocky, Bella Hadid, and other influential celebs became exemplars of the trend, popping up at fashion weeks and music festivals in Marmot jackets and Merrell boots”—Ocean’s iconic look in Paris in 2019 paired an Arc’teryx toque with a puffer jacket and straight-leg denim. The outfit was made of tweed, a fabric that Scottish estates began tweaking in the mid-1800s to match their local terrain for hunts. In short, it’s the original camouflage. Here’s a primer on the fall favorite.

Mat Fraser, five-time CrossFit Games champion, was the face of Nike Training for nearly a decade, with solid results: “His signature edition Nike Metcons, dubbed the Matcons, would sell out on Nike’s website and resell over retail on sites like StockX,” says Complex. But the midsoles were too hard to wear outside the gym, too, says Fraser. Here, Complex chats with the champ and fellow CrossFit athlete Brooke Wells to learn how they built a sneaker for doing burpees or grabbing bagels.

And that they’re handmade in Maine, the birthplace of the style, by a father-and-son duo who, for years, built shoes for other manufacturers until they started their own label in 2009. This gorgeously crafted ranger moc from Rancourt & Co. is made with experienced hands, in a style and construction that’ll last you well through the fall—and the next one, and several more to come. $395
